Thursday 26 September 2024 LKS2 Racket Pack (Badminton) This week, some lucky Year 4 students got to attend a Racket Pack Festival at the Peter May Sports Centre. This consisted of various badminton-themed games to acclimatise the children to both the racket and the shuttlecock. They had a great time running, swinging and throwing their way around the centre—a grand day all around. I imagine after this they'll be calling it goodminton!

Tuesday 24 September 2024 KS1 Children's Cross Country Race Miss Anderson and I had the lucky privilege of taking 16 amazing children to The Peter May Sports Centre to compete in the Key Stage 1 Cross Country Competition.

Friday 21 June 2024 KS1 Value Games Miss McFarlane and Mrs Monaghan had the lucky privilege of taking 30 Year 2 children to the Peter May Sports Centre to take part in a Value Games Festival. They were put into different value groups and got to compete in 4 different events ranging from Athletics, Speed cup stacking, Lacrosse, Handball, Dance, Cricket, Boxing, Rugby, Orienteering, Tag games, Archery and Badminton. They had a very inspirational fun filled day. It was lovely because we also saw the Feel Good Ambassadors from South Grove leading some of the events.

Friday 21 June 2024 KS1 Quad Kids Miss Edmonds and Miss McFarlane had the pleasure of taking some KS1 children to the Feel Good Centre to take part in the Waltham Forest Athletics borough competition Quad Kids. The children individually had to compete in 4 different events: 50m sprint, 300m jog, howling and long jump. Due to the torrential rain, sadly the children did not get to complete in all 4 events. They were only able to complete 2 events.

Wednesday 12 June 2024 Mini Tour De Waltham Forest On Wednesday 12th June, eight experienced cyclists from UKS2 went to Leyton Jubilee Park to take part in the borough’s cycling competition: Mini Tour de Waltham Forest.

Friday 7 June 2024 KS2 Quadkids Athletics On Thursday 6th June, our largest team of thirty-two children left South Grove and headed to the Feel Good Centre. It turned out to be a glorious day and perfect weather for the children to compete in.

Friday 24 May 2024 UKS2 Boys Dynamos Cricket On Friday 24th May, a group of selected UKS2 pupils went to a cricket competition two days after we had just had Ofsted in. We left South Grove at 8:55am and once we arrived we practiced our batting, bowling and fielding skills.

Monday 29 April 2024 KS1 Tennis Festival Ms Edmonds and Miss McFarlane had the great privilege to take fifteen KS1 children to a Tennis Skills Festival at Ridgeway Park Tennis Centre.

Tuesday 23 April 2024 LKS2 Mini Tennis Festival On Tuesday 23rd April, two teams from year 4 participated in a tennis competition at Ridgeway Park. We played lots of games and practised our tennis skills. Amazingly, Team A made it to the quarter finals where they played Greenleaf. The score was 2-2. This meant that we progressed to the semi-finals where we played Ainslie Wood. Unfortunately, we lost 4-0.

Friday 8 March 2024 Girls Football Festival - March 2024 Ms Edmonds and I had the lucky privilege of taking ten children from KS1 to a Girls Football Festival at Douglas Eyre Sports Centre on Friday to take part in a range of carousel activities to explore football skills and it was the perfect day as it was International Women’s Day! Nobody came 1st, 2nd or 3rd. It was all about taking part and having fun and the children certainly did this!

Tuesday 27 February 2024 LKS2 Girls football On Tuesday, two teams represented South Grove in a Year 3 and 4 girl's football competition. We had a fantastic day and played some fantastic football.

Tuesday 20 February 2024 KS2 Football || February 2024 On Tuesday 20th February, Mrs Edmonds and I had the pleasure of taking the KS2 football teams from across Years 3-6.

Thursday 8 February 2024 UKS2 Netball || 8th February 2024 On a very wet Thursday in February, eight Year 6 children, a Feel Good Ambassador and one member of Year 5 attended the Waltham Forest Netball Stingers competition at the Score Centre.

Tuesday 30 January 2024 LKS2 Tri Golf by Mr Perna Last week (18th January), a group of year 4 students represented South Grove at the LKS2 Tri Golf Competition.

Monday 29 January 2024 Year 3 Racket Pack by Miss Hubbard On Monday 29th, a group of year 3 children had the opportunity to try a new sport, which was badminton. They were on a rotation of six activities, all of which allowed them to practise different skills which would be essential for a badminton game. We completed the activities alongside another school and although we were not competing, the children soon became very competitive and were striving to win their games.

Monday 15 January 2024 KS1 Tri Golf Festival by Miss McFarlane Miss Edmonds and I had the lucky privilege of taking ten KS1 children to the Leyton Sports Hub to take part in a Tri Golf Competition on Monday 15th January.

Tuesday 5 December 2023 SEND Ice-Skating @ Lea Valley Ice Centre || December 2023 On Tuesday 5th December, seven very excited children left to take part in an ice-skating festival. We arrived with plenty of time to relax and settle our nerves before putting our ice-skating boots and learning to walk in them. After we found our balance, we were taken through to the competition rink where we had three, highly-qualified instructors, lots of adults and even the center manager had come to support us.

Friday 24 November 2023 KS1 Sportshall Athletics Competition || November 2023 Ms Edmonds and Miss McFarlane had the lucky pleasure of taking sixteen KS1 children to the Peter May Sports Centre to take part in a Sportshall Athletics Competition. In total, sixteen different Schools took part and there were six different events to participate in: Launcher, Jumpers, Pitcher, Stepper, Skipper and Bouncer.

Tuesday 14 November 2023 UKS2 Sportshall Athletics || Tuesday 14th November This particular trip is one that the children really look forward to. Arriving early, we took the time to prepare the children with advice on their particular events. Attentively, the children listened and those who had been lucky enough to take part in Sportshall Athletics before, offered words of advice.

Tuesday 31 October 2023 UKS2 Multisports || OCTOBER 2023 On the 31st of October, some year 5 and 6 students trekked their way to Score Leisure near Leyton Orient to take part in the multi sports trip. This involved numerous games and activities for the children to take part in. They took part in: dancing, football, squash, hula-hooping and volley ball. The children had a brilliant time taking part in the variety of sports. There were smiles all round and excitement by all, the children had a great time.

Friday 29 September 2023 YEAR 2 & 3 Mixed Football || OCTOBER 2023 Miss Edmonds and myself had the lucky opportunity to take 12 Year 3 children to the Waltham Forest Year 2 & 3 Mixed Football Festival at Goals. The children were split into 2 groups – South A and South Grove B. Both teams worked extremely hard and tried their best. South Grove B played Mission Grove 2 – 0. Handsworth 4 – 0. Hillyfield 6 – 0. Winns 5 – 0. South Grove A played Greenleaf 2 – 0. George Tomlinson 1 – 0.Barncroft 5 – 0. Parkside 2 - 1. I am very pleased to say…South Grove A managed to get through to the Quarter finals. I am pleased to say both teams were fantastic and worked extremely hard.
