Mini Tour De Waltham Forest
Mini Tour De Waltham Forest JUNE2024
On Wednesday 12th June, eight experienced cyclists from UKS2 went to Leyton Jubilee Park to take part in the borough’s cycling competition: Mini Tour de Waltham Forest.
Before any races, the children took part in many different activities using pedal powered technology such as: Cycle Scalextric, Cycle Boombox, speed testing and Cycle Smoothies. In addition, the children experienced a session on bike maintenance, air quality as well as recycling activities.
To begin with, the children had a warm up lap followed by a race involving their peers. They were then placed into groups, ranked A-H.
A little while later and the races began. I waited nervously at the start/finish line whilst Ms Montgomery and the rest of the team scattered around the track to offer words – and screams- of encouragement!

After lots of drama, the children stood exhausted waiting to hear where South Grove had placed. We knew three of the team had won their individual races but we had no idea where we placed as a team.
As the schools were read out in order, the children waited patiently. Third place was awarded to Gwyn Jones with South Grove getting second place missing first place which was awarded to Barncroft.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of the Mini Tour de Waltham Forest with South Grove being the only school in the borough to have placed in medal ranking position for all of the ten years!
