• Thursday 25 June 2026 Year Three Explore the Greek Art of Mosaic This week, to beat the heat, we got creative with some art! After learning, and writing about the famous Alexander the Great Mosaic, we were inspired to create our own mosaic masterpieces.
• Friday 19 June 2026 Year Three's Careers Week During Careers week, Year 3 enjoyed an inspiring visit from Samantha, a professional advertising executive. We dived headfirst into the world of marketing, discovering how to give customers a compelling reason to choose Persil. Working like true agency professionals, the children formed dynamic creative duos. One student took on the role of Creative Writer—crafting powerful headlines and persuasive messages—while their partner acted as the Lead Artist, designing eye-catching visuals. The classroom was buzzing with energy as the pairs collaborated to produce an incredible series of vibrant promotional posters.
• Friday 12 June 2026 Year Three Walk to School During Walk to School Week, Year 3 carried out a simple wildlife survey by observing pollinators around the school grounds. The children discussed what could be added to the school environment to attract more pollinator, such as wildflowers and insect-friendly habitats.We also explored how everyday streets can either support or harm pollinators and considered how choosing to walk, scoot, wheel or cycle can help create a healthier environment. Through these activities, the children developed a greater understanding of the important role pollinators play in our ecosystem, and how sustainable travel choices can benefit both wildlife and people.
• Friday 5 June 2026 Year Three get stuck in to their Science Topic
• Wednesday 6 May 2026 Year Three See the Light In Science, we have been studying light. One of our lessons has been about sun safety and understanding that the UV rays coming from the sun are what cause damage to our skin. It is very important that when you are out in the sun, you protect yourself with sunglasses (with UV protection), a hat, protective clothing, and sunscreen — the higher the SPF, the better. It is also VERY important that we do not look directly at the sun, as that will damage our eyes. To help us look at the sun more safely, we created pinhole cameras to project a shadow onto a piece of paper.
• Friday 1 May 2026 Year Three get Volcanic! This week, we finished our unit on volcanoes by completing a synoptic task. For this assignment, we drew Mount Etna and included surrounding details such as farms, tourists, scientists, and geologists.After finishing our drawings, we labelled the different activities taking place. For example, we showed geologists collecting lava samples and scientists traveling over the volcano to monitor signs of a potential eruption, such as temperature changes or the crater growing in size. We also wrote about how tourists visit volcanoes for activities like hiking and skiing. We have thoroughly enjoyed our lessons about volcanoes!
• Thursday 16 April 2026 Year Three Read the Iron Man Back from the break and we are ready and raring to go as we finish our last term in Year 3!To help us prepare for our upcoming writing, we have started reading The Iron Man (no, not the Marvel one!). Before we began reading the text, we made predictions about what we thought the story could be about. We shared our thoughts, wonders, and used our imagination to think about what might happen.The first chapter was really interesting — it introduced us to the Iron Man, and we came up with some fantastic descriptions to describe him.
• Friday 20 March 2026 Year 3 Focus on the Human Skeleton In our science topic we have been learning about the human body focusing on the skeleton. We discussed how when we are first born, we have 300 bones in our body and that they fuse together over time to create the 206 we have by early adulthood. Our skeleton helps us to move, stay standing and protects many of our vital organs. We used masking tape to map our skeleton on our body.
• Thursday 12 March 2026 Year Three's Trip to North Greenwich It is that time of the year the annual trip to North Greenwich to get Uber boat to Westminster to take in all the sites of London from the River Thames enjoying our incredible city. All excited and ready to go Year 3 set off on their journey from Walthamstow to Stratford to North Greenwich to Westminster! The children (and adults) thoroughly enjoyed riverboat ride taking in all the incredible landmarks that London has. The weather was well and truly on our side as we arrived at Westminster and made the journey across Westminster Bridge past the London Eye, and having lunch in Jubilee Gardens. When lunch was all done we made our way to South Bank Centre for a toilet break, then to Waterloo station and made the journey back to Walthamstow! It was a very enjoyable day, thank you so much to the parents that helped us with the trip too!
• Thursday 5 March 2026 Year Three's World Book Day 2026 Year 3 had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day. The classrooms were filled with imagination and as children arrived dressed as their favourite characters from stories old and new. We were delighted to see magical witches from 'Wicked', brave superheroes ready to save the day, and several young witches and wizards from the worldof harry Potter.
• Friday 27 February 2026 3SH's Assembly was all About Settlements
• Monday 23 February 2026 Year 3 Retell Greek Legends This week in year 3 we have begun a new unit of writing. We learnt about the legendary Battle of Troy and the Trojan Horse. We learnt about Odysseus and his cunning plan to defeat the Trojans and take back Helena 'the face that launched a thousand ships!' We were given a series of pictures to sequence with our partner and to help our oracy we used stem sentences to retell the famous story. Some of us then took on the challenge to try and retell the story to the class without using the words umm or errr. It was pretty tricky! We are looking forward to learning more about this and seeing what amazing writing we can create.
• Thursday 12 February 2026 Year 3's Safer Internet Day 2026 This week in year 3 we celebrated E-Safety Day and took part in a variety of activies over the day. In the morning we discussed what the day was and how we can be safe and sensible online. This years theme was all about AI and how we need to be careful when using this online. We talked about things that we OK and not OK uses of AI, it can be fun sometimes but we need to think about how it would make someone feel. We also watched a live lesson from the BBC all about AI and how it works to create an app. Then in the afternoon we created posters to talk about how to be safe online
• Wednesday 21 January 2026 Year 3 get Inspired by Abstract Art This week in year 3, we were inspired by abstract art. Abstract art is something that does not try to represent something realistically so sometimes it can look a little strange or odd. We took parts of a fossilled shell in its complex form and spilt it into a circle, a spiral, a curved line and radiating lines too. Using charcol we drew those first and then using chalk and pastels we decorated and blended them to give them an abstract look. Can you spot the different parts of the shell. Keep an eye out around school to see our fabulous fossil abstract art!
• Friday 16 January 2026 Year 3 where visited by the School Nurse to talk about Personal Hygiene This week in year 3 we had a visit from the School Nurse to talk to us about personal hygiene. We learnt about the importance of making sure to keep clean which helps us to be healthy. Making sure that we wash our hands for 20 seconds (that's how long it takes to sing Happy Birthday twice), brush our teeth (twice a day) and not bite our nails (ew, think about where our nails go all day)! We then created posters about the new information we learnt from the workshop. Looking after ourselves keeps us healthy!
• Friday 12 December 2025 Year 3 Mountains This week mountains and more appeared in year 3. The childrens projects look fantastic! We can tell a lot of time and effort went into creating many versions of famous mountains around the world.
• Friday 5 December 2025 Year 3 Learn about Road Safety This week, in Year 3 we were very lucky to be visited by the Smart Brothers who taught us all about Road Safety. They reminded us that it is very important to be safe and sensible around roads. Being sure that we don't play ball games near the road because cars may not see us or the ball. Also looking for a safe place to cross too. It is very important to remember 4 rules when crossing ANY road. We need to STOP! LOOK! LISTEN! and THINK! We need to STOP! at the edge of road, we then need to LOOK! for traffic, next we have to LISTEN! for traffic and then THINK! is it safe to cross. We were inspired after to create our own Road Safety posters.
• Monday 17 November 2025 Year 3 are Adders and Subtractors This week in maths we are looking at adding and subtracting using exchanging. We used equipment to help us visually see the question and remember to regroup the ones into the tens columns. We will be moving onto drawing out the equations to help us understand how to exchanging more.
• Monday 20 October 2025 Year 3 - Egyptian Day - WHAT A DAY! Year 3 looked a tad bit different on Tuesday for Egyptian Day . Pharaohs, mummies and archaeologists galore appeared in year 3. The children all looked fantastic in their outfits and the projects were even more incredible! Mrs Sandhu and Mrs Grant have their work cut out for them picking a winner. Thank you too all the adults at home in their support in coming up with costumes and projects. We took part in different actives across year 3 and 4. We made a mummy, made a diorama, hieroglyphics and pyramid art! Here are some thoughts from some of the kids about Egyptian Day. ''My favourite activity was the pyramid art and dressing up.'' ''I really like the pyramid art because I liked colouring with the pastels and I really liked making the mummy''
• Tuesday 14 October 2025 Year 3 study the poem 'Deux petits chaton visitant Paris' This week in French we put our knowledge of greetings into actions learning the poem 'Deux petits chaton visitant Paris' (Two little kittens visit Paris) We learnt the greetings and how to say my name is. Then we decorated some finger puppets and worked with our partners to show our poem to the class.
• Monday 29 September 2025 Year 3 are Number Recognisers This week in maths we have been focusing on recognising numbers to 1000. Working practically is a great way of visually seeing the different numbers and making them with our hands. We worked in partners to identify the 100s, 10s and the 1s in each number using place value counters and base ten equipment.
• Thursday 25 September 2025 Year 3 Learn about Animal Nutrition This week in year 3 as a part of our Science unit on Animals Including Humans- focusing on nutrition and looking at where our different foods come from and what they can give us. This week we looked at the climate and how it effects the food that grow in the UK. We looked at where different foods come from either the UK or grown abroad. We were all surpirsed at just where a lot of where our food comes from.
