A Night to Remember: Year 5's Young Voices 2025 Trip to the O2

Year 5 at Young Voices

Year 5 students at South Grove Primary School made history this week by attending the Young Voices 2025 concert at the O2 Arena. This event was a first for our school in many years, and it will surely be remembered as one of the highlights of the year.

The journey to the O2 started months ago, with a rigorous process of rehearsals. The children worked tirelessly to learn the songs, memorising lyrics off by heart and perfecting dance routines. There were moments of marathon singing in the school hall, and the pupils showed incredible resilience as they tackled complex harmonies and challenging choreography. Their reflective attitude helped them improve after each practice, ensuring they were well-prepared for the big day.

On the day itself, the excitement was high to say the least, as the students donned their white T-shirts and set off for the O2. The trip was a true test of the 4 R’s:

Resilience: Despite the long hours and a late night, the children kept their spirits high.

Respect: They represented the school impeccably, showing courtesy to other schools and the staff at the O2.

Reflective: They adapted quickly to last-minute instructions during rehearsals at the venue.

Responsible: Whether travelling by tube, walking to the coach, or keeping track of their belongings, the pupils acted sensibly and set a fantastic example.

Even as tiredness crept in on the journey home, the children’s laughter and positive energy never waned. The stewards were singing the songs through megaphones and we joined in! Their determination and teamwork truly shone through, and they gave an unforgettable performance alongside 7940 other young voices!

A special thanks goes to parents for their support throughout the lead-up to the event, whether it was helping with practice at home or preparing the children for the day. We also extend our gratitude to the staff who gave their time and energy to make this trip a success.

As this was our first Young Voices trip in a long time, we’d love to hear your feedback! Please share your thoughts at musicbox@southgrove.waltham.sch.uk

This experience has undoubtedly inspired our students, and we look forward to making more musical memories in the future!
